A compilation of Bob's acoustic openers from 1999-2002 (Froggie Records - 1 CD)
Beginning in the last century, Bob Dylan used to play an acoustic guitar during part of his shows. From June 1999 onwards, Dylan's concerts began with an acoustic cover song. These tunes were mostly upbeat songs that gotta serve a number of purposes -
- get the vocal pipes ready for the magnificent show to follow
- build up the audiences' anticipation for what is to come
- start the show off with a rare (according to casual fans!) song that will keep them in suspense of what is to come
These tunes have proved that Bob Dylan is still capable of pulling off a powerful, catchy melody that has covered themes from God to Murder - a similar concept to the albums that Johnny Cash released shortly thereafter.
Despite the joyous or morbid themes that these songs bring out, they always inspire you to tap your feet.

Note - 13 Humming Bird (instrumental) - Milan 20 04 02. 'Someone threw a lighted cigarette at Bob as he walked out on stage at the beginning of the show. Bob was visibly upset and had the house lights turned on. Larry and Charlie hummed at the start of the first song but Bob refused to sing, surprising even the band. Throughout the show Bob stood close to the drums and Tony's position rather than at the front of the stage. The house lights remained on the entire show.' (Olof Bjorner)
