"Painter's Mill Star Theatre" was in the Baltimore suburbs. It was one of those theatre in the round joints, that had a rotating stage in the middle. Being stationary likely made 20% - 25% of the seats unusable, as they would have been behind the stage, and the view obstructed. It had previously been known as "Painter's Mill Music Fair". It held maybe a couple thousand folks. It burned to the ground years later. It was rumored that it had been torched for the insurance.
This was the Mk. 3 version of the band, working off the success of "Fool For A Pretty Face", the last Humble Pie hit, at least in the States. As in a lot of the "Painter's Mill" shows, the vocal mix could have been higher, but it's not horrible here. The Baltimore News-American newspaper reviewed the show as "Humble Pie Serves Some Glorious Noise", and that about summed it up! Steve made lots of drug and booze related comments, and even hit up a hash pipe on stage before the encore. Too bad he didn't learn not to smoke in bed, as we'd still have this great vocalist with us today.
Steve Marriott - lead vocals & guitar
Jerry Shirley - drums
Bobby Tench - guitar & vocals
Anthony "Sooty" Jones - bass & vocals
